Andrew Thomas Callaghan (born: April 23, 1997 [age 27]), better known online as Channel 5, is a American YouTuber and journalist. He is best known for creating the YouTube series All Gas No Brakes but announced his departure along with his crew, Nic Mosher and Evan Gilbert-Katz on March 2021.

Callaghan launched Channel 5 the following month. The videos consists of the same style as his previous show: travel throughout the United States to conduct vox pop interviews at various events.

In May 2020, Doing Things Media and Abso Lutely Productions (the production company of comedy duo Tim & Eric) entered a deal to develop a television series based on All Gas No Brakes.^[1] On March 9, 2021, Callaghan announced his departure from the All Gas No Brakes show via his Instagram page. Contract issues with network Doing Things Media were cited as the reason for his departure.^[2] But, it was later simplified in an interview that he attempted to renegotiate his contract with the company but was locked out of all social media accounts and fired on March 2021 after requesting a pay raise and more creative control.^[3] Despite this, Tim Heidecker would confirm that Abso Lutely Productions was still in a working relationship with Callaghan.

The first content of Channel 5 was released in its Patreon page on April 5, 2021.^[4] Then, the first episode was uploaded on YouTube on April 11, 2021, documenting spring break partygoers in Miami Beach.^[5] It was taken off by YouTube afterwards due to being blamed for spreading Coronavirus misinformation. It was restored five days later.^[6]

Controversy[]

In January 2023, two women posted videos on TikTok accusing Callaghan of trying to pressure them into sex.^[8] A reporter at The Stranger interviewed two more women who made similar allegations. On January 12, his legal representative responded to the allegations in a statement released to Variety, saying in part: "Conversations about pressure and consent are extremely important and Andrew wants to have these conversations, so he can continue to learn and grow. While every dynamic is open to interpretation and proper communication is critical from all those involved, repeated requests for money should not be part of these conversations." ^[9]

On January 15, Callaghan responded to the allegations in a YouTube video, stating that some of the allegations about him are "not true" or "missing important contextual information" but apologizing for his behavior and revealing plans to attend therapy and Alcoholics Anonymous.^[10] The Stranger published an additional story on February 28, with two more women accusing Callaghan of rape and sexual assault that took place at Loyola University in 2017. Callaghan's legal representative said, "Andrew has taken accountability for his role in other situations and will be the first to admit his shortcomings; however, these accusations go further and are completely without merit. Andrew will utilize every option he has in order to clear his name and protect his reputation."^[11] The allegations caused Abso Lutely Productions, and Tim & Eric to sever ties with Callaghan.^[12]
