Synthesis

Returning to the series for the first time since Kingdom Hearts 2, is Item Synthesis! By collecting various items throughout the Worlds, you can create a variety of Items, Armors, and Accessories to power up Sora, Donald, and Goofy, while they fight to save the Realm of Light from its foes.

Item Synthesis is available from the start of the game, but additional mechanics are added as the story progresses. Once you get to Twilight Town, the Workshop and Photo Missions categories are added.

Keyblade Forge

In the Keyblade Forge you can upgrade each individual Keyblade up to 10 times. Each upgrade will increase Strength and/or Magic, and at higher levels may even add Abilities. The entries below list the total amount of ingredients needed to take each Keyblade from level zero to level 10.

During a New Game, Sora receives some of these Keyblades at a higher level. If you carry Keyblades forward into a New Game+, they are all reduced to level 0. The tables below show you all the information for all levels.

This list does not include paid DLC Keyblades.

The first Keyblade to reach level 10 will unlock an Achievement. You can bypass the leveling feature by unlocking the Ultima Weapon Keyblade, which comes fully leveled up.

Kingdom Key

The Hunny Spout is unlocked after completing the story events in Hundred Acre Wood. Sora receives this Keyblade at level 3.

The Wheel of Fate is unlocked after completing the story events in The Caribbean. Sora receives this Keyblade at level 3.

Grand Chef

The grand chef is unlocked after earning an Excellent rating on all recipes in the Classic Menu of the Grand Bistro. Sora receives this Keyblade at level 2.

Ultima Weapon

The Ultima Weapon is unlocked after creating it via item synthesis. The recipe is rewarded after collecting 58 unique synthesis materials. Sora receives this Keyblade at level 10.

The Oblivion is unlocked after completing the Main Story on Critical Mode. Return to the main menu to receive the Proof of Time Past, then bring that to any Moogle Shop.

The Oathkeeper is unlocked after photographing all 90 Lucky Emblems. Return to the main menu to receive the Proof of Promises, then bring that to any Moogle Shop.

The Starlight Keyblade is unlocked during the Main Story at The Keyblade Graveyard.

The Nano Gear Keyblade is unlocked after completing the Main Story in San Fransokyo. Sora receives this Keyblade at level 3.

Crystal Snow

The Crystal Snow is unlocked after completing the story events in Arendelle. Sora receives this Keyblade at level 2.

Ever After

The Ever After is unlocked after completing the story events in Kingdom of Corona.

Shooting Star

The Shooting Star is unlocked after completing the Bistro events in Twilight Town.

You will need to find the following synthesis materials in order to reach level 10.

Photo Missions

You will unlock the ability to complete Photo Missions after receiving the Gummiphone and arriving at Twilight Town during the Main Story. In order to complete one of these missions, you need to take a photo of a certain character, creature, or location, then return to any Moogle Shop. The reward for completing each Photo Mission is a new synthesis recipe.

I need oven mitts to handle that hothead, kupo.

The Flame Core Heartless is a regular enemy throughout the game. For an easy time tracking these down, return to Olympus and land at the Overlook save point. Follow the path down the stairs to the east to find these enemies and quickly take a picture before fighting.

That fiend keeps getting my pom-pom wet, kupo!

The Water Core Heartless is a regular enemy throughout the game. For an easy time tracking these down, visit Kingdom of Corona and land at the Campsite save point. Take the path north into the Wetlands, where Water Core Heartless will appear alongside some Earth Core Heartless.

Fluffy doesn't always mean nice, kupo!

Travel to Kingdom of Corona and land at the Hills save point. Chief Puffs appear along with normal enemies a bit to the north.

I can't get over those chiseled muscles, kupo.

Travel to Olympus and land at the Agora save point. The statue of Hercules is currently being renovated, but you can take a picture of it anyway.

Mechasmasher's busting through the wall, kupo!

Travel to Toy Box and land at the Rest Area save point. The ACTION+ store is to the north, and the display in particular is along the east wall.

Who built that tower in the forest, kupo?

Travel to the Kingdom of Corona and land at the Tower save point. You don't even have to move, just bring out the camera and snap a pic.

Wish I could ditch work and see the festival, kupo.

Travel to the Kingdom of Corona and land at the Thoroughfare save point. Bring out the camera and snap a picture of the people enjoying the festival to complete this mission.

It takes a hot fire to forge lightning bolts, kupo!

Travel to Olympus and land at the Corridors save point. Climb the stairs to the northeast and take the path that curves northeast. Let the water carry Sora down to the Secluded Forge, and run down the stairs. Take a picture of the fire, not the anvil.

"King of the gods" to some, "Dad" to others, kupo.

Travel to Olympus and land at the Apex save point. Zeus is standing in the plaza off to the north.

I love watching the tram go by at twilight, kupo.

Travel to Twilight Town and land at the Tram Common save point. Either run through the map looking for the Tram, or wait for it to come around and take the picture.

Give that hard worker in yellow a raise, kupo!

Travel to Monstropolis and land at the Tank Yard save point. A CDA Agent is standing along the wall to the north.

Somehow I doubt that palace has a fireplace, kupo.

Travel to Arendelle and land at the Mountain Ridge save point. The ice palace is right there in front of you.

I think I saw a walking, talking snowman, kupo!

Travel to Arendelle and land at the Mountain Ridge save point. Olaf is standing near the other characters outside the ice palace.

Wait, kupo... That green guy looks familiar, kupo!

Travel to Toy Box and land at the Main Floor: 3F save point. Enter the Kid Korral to the west, and go further into the play area. Take a picture of the cactuar that you built and ran up during the Main Story.

He helps keep the birds out of the fields, kupo.

Travel to the Hundred Acre Woods. Cross the bridge to find the scarecrow next to the large pumpkin.

There it is, kupo. My lucky star, kupo!

Travel to San Fransokyo and land at the North District: Night save point. Climb any of the buildings so that you are above the city. There are only two lights in the sky: the moon, and the evening star.

Those fish are swimming through the air, kupo!

Travel to San Fransokyo and land at the North District: Day save point. Climb any of the buildings so that you have a good view of the wind socks. Any picture will do, as long as at least one wind sock is present.

Stay by the falls to beat the tropical heat, kupo!

Travel to The Caribbean and land at the Settlement save point. Travel north down the path into the Seaport, then east along the beach. When you reach the river, follow it south to the waterfall, and snap the picture.

Show me a creepy, shadowy swarm, kupo!

This Mission can only be completed after completing the Main Story and unlocking Battlegates.

Travel to Monstropolis and land at the Tank Yard save point. Exit south to the next room, then use Rail Slide on the large blue pipe on the east wall. This will take you to a silo area with a Battlegate. The Demon Tower is one of the enemies you will face.

I moogle-salute all your fierce friends, kupo!

Sora teams up with 12 different characters throughout the game. You need to take a clear picture of each of them in order to complete this Mission. It is easy enough to travel to each World and take a picture. The Moogle keeps track of how many you have taken, but not which ones. It is easiest to just take new photos to ensure you have them all.

Each character will strike a pose when you center them in the shot. You don't have to do this, but hearing their unique dialogue will help you make sure that the photo will register.

Collector's Goals

Unlike previous games, all of the Collector's goals are available from the beginning. You can view them in-game, and see their rewards.

Goals for obtaining different synthesis materials all give recipes as their rewards. Goals for obtaining various total amounts reward you will additional materials. Goals for obtaining an amount of a specific material will grant you the ability to purchase that material from the Moogles.

Material List

This section of the store shows you all of the materials that you have brought the Moogles. I have recreated the list below so that you can see which specific materials you may be missing. Additionally, I have listed the rank of each material, and how many of each you need in order to create one of every recipe and complete all the Collector's Goals.

Many of the Common and Uncommon materials (Shards and Stones) drop from multiple enemies, and those enemies are often found on multiple Worlds. I have listed what I consider to be the best and easiest Creature/Location combination to get these items.

When farming for Materials, you want to equip as many 'Lucky Strike' Abilities as possible. Goofy learns one of these through regular leveling, and there is one on the Favorite Deputy Keyblade. You have a small chance to earn a Lucky Ring when delivering Postcards; see the Twilight Town page for more information there.

Again, this list is the same as it appears in-game.

Blazing

Blazing Shards, Stones, and Gems can all be farmed in Olympus.

Land at the Overlook save point, then head down the stairs to the northeast to fight several Flame Cores and other Heartless. You will get Shards and Stones here, among others.

After defeating them, use the save point to travel to Realm of the Gods/Corridors and use the Rail Gauntlet to the west. Defeat the Vermillion Sambas on this route for Stones and Gems, then return to the Overlook and repeat.

Blazing Crystals can only be found by defeating High Soldiers in San Fransokyo. You can combine farming these items with Lightning Stones, Gems, and Crystals.

Land at the South District: Night save point and head north along the street. Turn east at the first intersection, where the map changes to the Central District. High Soldiers appear with other Heartless at the next intersection.

After defeating this group, continue east towards a staircase. More High Soldiers will appear with Soldiers and Mechanitaurs. Defeat them, then head north to reach the North District: Night save point. Follow the street as it goes north and turns heading west. Two more groups of Soldiers and High Soldiers appear on this street.

Travel back to the South District: Night and repeat.

High Soldiers also appear in Battlegate 12.

Frost

Frost Shards can be found by defeating Winterhorns in Arendelle, but they can also be found by destroying the small bushes all over the World.

You will most likely have all the Shards you need before farming. I recommend hitting bushes as you farm for Stones, Gems, and Crystals.

If you want to fight the Winterhorns, travel to the Foothills save point, then head north into the Snowfields. A group of Winterhorns appear in the center of this area.

Frost Stones, Gems, and Crystals can be found by defeating Frost Serpents in Arenedelle. You can combine this with farming for Pulsing Gems and Crystals.

Land at the Mountain Ridge save point and take the northeast cave to the Frozen Wall. Descend the mountain until you reach a clearing where two Frost Serpents spawn. Destroy their wings for a chance to earn Stones and Gems, then defeat their bodies for a chance to get Crystals.

Lightning

Lightning Shards can be found by defeating Marionettes in Toy Box.

Land at the Main Floor: 3F save point and enter the Babies & Toddlers: Dolls store to the east. Marionettes show up right away, alongside other Heartless. After defeating them, jump off to the Main Floor: 1F and use the save point to return to 3F and respawn the enemies.

Lightning Stones, Gems, and Crystals can be found by defeating Tireblades in San Fransokyo. You can combine farming these items with Blazing Crystals.

Land at the North District: Night save point and Free Run up the large circular building to the south. Several Tireblades spawn on the roof.

Tireblades also appear in Battlegate 12.

Lucid

Lucid Shards, Stones, and Gems can be found by fighting Puffballs and Chief Puffs in Kingdom of Corona.

Land at the Tower save point. Head through the tunnel north to the Hills, and continue north along the path. There will be a clearing where four Chief Puffs spawn. Continue north past the Hills save point for three waves, then just a little bit further north for one more. Use the Hills save point to return to the Tower and start again.

Lucid Crystals can be found by fighting Anchor Raiders in The Caribbean.

Land at any save point you want, then board your ship. Use the ship fast travel to reach the Isle of Luck, where three Anchor Raiders spawn. Keep using the ship fast travel between the Isle of Luck and any other location to respawn them.

If you still need to defeat 200 ships for the 'True Captain' Achievement, one Anchor Raider appears on the larger ships that sometimes spawn.

Anchor Raiders also appear in Battlegate 10.

Pulsing

Pulsing Shards and Stones can be looted from Earth Core enemies in Kingdom of Corona.

Land at the Campsite save point and head north into the Wetlands. Two Earth Cores appear alongside two Water Cores. After defeating them, enter the cave to the southwest for several more.

Pulsing Gems can be found from Satyrs in Arendelle.

Land at the Foothills save point and take the path north. Around 10 Satyrs appear halfway down the path.

Pulsing Crystals can only be found from Helmed Bodies, also in Arendelle. You can combine farming this with the various Frost items.

Land at the Mountain Ridge save point and take the northeast cave to the Ridge. Follow the path down to a large clearing. Three Helmed Bodies appear on the way. Return to the Mountain Ridge to respawn all the enemies.

Helmed Bodies also appear in Battlegate 11, in San Fransokyo.

Writhing

Writhing Shards, Stones, and Gems can be found from Flutterings. While they can be found in multiple Worlds, I like Kingdom of Corona best, as you can combine this with farming for Lucid and Pulsing items.

Land at the Tower save point and head north through the tunnel. A group of Flutterings appear halfway down. More can be found in the Wetlands cave.

Writhing Crystals are found by defeating Mechanitaurs in San Fransokyo.

Land at the North District: Night save point and head back and forth on the street to the north. A pair show up alongside a Metal Troll. Return to the save point and go southwest to find two more with some Soldiers. You can do this at the same time as Blazing Crystals.

Mechanitaurs also appear in Battlegate 12.

Betwixt

All Betwixt items drop from Nobodies.

Shards, Stones, and Gems can be looted from the Reaper Nobodies that are found in Kingdom of Corona.

Land at the Marsh save point and run through the Marsh. Several Reapers spawn in this area. Use save point to travel to respawn the area.

Stones, Gems, and Crystals can be found from Ninjas in Arendelle.

Land at the Foothills save point and head north into the Snowfield. Explore this whole area to find around five Ninjas. They appear with other Nobodies and Heartless in this area.

Additionally, Betwixt items can be found by destroying environmental objects.

• Shards can be found in Olympus, Twilight Town, and Kingdom of Corona
• Stones can be found in Kingdom of Corona, Arendelle, and The Caribbean
• Gems can be found in Arendelle and The Caribbean
• Crystals can be found in The Caribbean

Twilight

All Twilight items drop from Nobodies.

Twilight Shards can only be found by defeating Dusks. They can be found quickest in Arendelle.

Land at the Foothills save point and head north into the Snowfield. A group appears near the north pathway, and a few more appear further along it near the Free Run wall.

Twilight Stones, Gems, and Crystals can be found by defeating Gamblers in The Caribbean.

Land at the Docks save point and head to the west side of the town. You can find the Dockside Path here, where eight Gamblers appear.

Additionally, Twilight items can be found by destroying environmental objects.

• Shards can be found in Olympus, Twilight Town, and Kingdom of Corona
• Stones can be found in Kingdom of Corona, Arendelle, and The Caribbean
• Gems can be found in Arendelle and The Caribbean
• Crystals can be found in The Caribbean

Mythril

Mythril items do not drop from any enemies. Instead, they have a small chance to drop from environmental items in most Worlds.

• Shards can be found in Olympus, Twilight Town, and Toy Box.
• Stones can be found in Toy Box, Monstropolis, and Arendelle.
• Gems can be found in Monstropolis and Arendelle.
• Crystals can be found in San Fransokyo.

You can also find them when traveling in your Gummi Ship and destroying blue asteroids.

• Starlight Way asteroids have a chance to drop Shards and Stones.
• Misty Stream asteroids have a chance to drop Stones, Gems, and Crystals.
• The Eclipse asteroids have a chance to drop Stones, Gems, and Crystals.

Finally, you will get five of each Rank by opening each of the following Treasure Spheres across all three Gummi maps.

• 5 Shards come from Treasure Sphere γ
• 5 Stones come from Treasure Sphere γ
• 5 Gems come from Treasure Sphere δ
• 5 Crystals come from Treasure Sphere ζ

Sinister

Sinister items only drop from Unversed, enemies that are only found in Monstropolis.

Land at the Lobby & Offices save point, then head south to the front room. Four Turtletoads appear, followed by one Spiked Turtletoad.

Fast travel to the Ground Floor and head south into the next room, where you fight more Turtletoads, some Flowersnakes, and some Flood.

Repeat as needed.

Soothing

Soothing Shards drop from all three Gigas variants in Toy Box. They appear on each level of the store.

Stones and Gems can be found by defeating Marine Rumbas. They appear on several different islands in The Caribbean.

Crystals can only be found by defeating Spear Lizards in The Caribbean.

Land anywhere and use the ship fast travel to reach the Isla de los Mástiles. Three Spear Lizards appear on the beach.

Marine Rumbas and Spear Lizards also appear in Battlegate 10.

Wellspring

All of the Wellspring items drop from a variety of enemies. You will find more than you need while farming for other materials.

Shards can be found by defeating all three Gigas variants in Toy Box.

Stones can be found by defeating Marionettes in Toy Box. This includes the toys that they possess, such as Patchwork Animals and Bouncy Pets. You can combine this while farming for Lightning Shards.

Gems can be found by defeating High Soldiers, Mechanitaurs, and Metal Trolls, all in San Fransokyo. You will get many of these while farming for Blazing Crystals and Writhing Crystals.

Crystals can be found by defeating High Soldiers in San Fransokyo. You can combine this with farming for Blazing Crystals.

Hungry

Shards and Stones can be found by defeating all varieties of Popcat (normal, Vitality, Magic, Focus, and Munny). Travel to Arendelle for an easy group.

Land at the Gorge save point and head north towards the Free Run walls. At the top of the second wall, a group of 17 are sitting in a corner.

Gems can only be found by attacking the tail of a Frost Serpent.

Land at the Mountain Ridge save point and head northeast through the cave to the Frozen Wall. Travel down the mountain until you find two Frost Serpents with some Satyrs and Dusks.

Crystals can also be dropped by a Frost Serpent tail, but they also drop from Mechanitaurs over in San Fransokyo.

Special

Fluorite can be found in several chests throughout the game. You can also destroy blue asteroids in Starlight Way for a chance to obtain one.

• Three chests in Olympus: at the Summit, in the Agora, and in the Courtyard
• Three chests in Twilight Town: two in the Tram Common and one in The Woods
• Three chests in Toy Box: one in Andy's Room, one in Babies & Toddlers, and one in the Kid Korral
• Three appear in Treasure Sphere α in Starlight Way
• Five appear in Treasure Sphere ζ in Misty Stream
• Five appear in Treasure Sphere ι in The Eclipse
• They can be purchased from Moogle shops for 500 munny

Damascus can be found in several chests throughout the game. You can also destroy blue asteroids in Starlight Way for a chance to obtain one.

• Two chests in Kingdom of Corona: one in the Wetlands and one in the Marsh
• Two chests in Monstropolis: one in the Ground Floor and one in the Accessway
• Three chests in Arendelle: one in the Treescape, one in the Upper Tier, and one in the Foothills
• Three chests in The Caribbean: one at Isla de los Mástiles, one at Sandbar Isle, and one at Horseshoe Island
• Two chests in San Fransokyo: one in the South District and one in the North District
• Three appear in Treasure Sphere ε in Misty Stream
• Five appear in Treasure Sphere ╖ in The Eclipse

Adamantite can be found in several chests throughout the game. You can also destroy blue asteroids in Misty Stream and The Eclipse for a chance to obtain one.

• Seven chests in The Caribbean: one in the Undersea Cavern, one at Isla de los Mástiles, and five at Sandbar Isle
• Two chests in San Fransokyo: both in the North District
• Three appear in Treasure Sphere ╖ in The Eclipse

Orichalcum can be found in several chests throughout the game. You can also get them by destroying blue asteroids in The Eclipse.

• One chest in Arendelle: in the Snowfield
• Five chests in The Caribbean: one in the Undersea Cavern, one at Isla Verdemontaña, and three at Sandbar Island
• Obtain at least one of every single synthesis material
• Obtain a total of 1,000 synthesis materials
• Obtain every type of Ultra Rare material (Crystals, and everything in this Special category)
• One appears in Treasure Sphere θ in The Eclipse

Orichalcum+ has a limited supply; there are only seven in the entire game. You need to collect all seven in order to synthesize Sora's Ultima Weapon Keyblade.

• In a chest at Exile Island in The Caribbean
• In a chest in The Final World
• Complete all Flantastic Seven missions and earn the best reward
• Play Frozen Slider in Arendelle and collect all 10 Treasures

Electrum can be found in several chests throughout the game.

• Five chests in The Caribbean: one at Isla Verdemontaña, and four at Sandbar Isle
• Two chests in San Fransokyo: one in the Central District and one in the North District
• Two appear in Treasure Sphere ι in The Eclipse

Evanescent Crystals are only available after completing the Main Story.

• One is rewarded after clearing Battlegate 3 for the first time
• One is rewarded after clearing Battlegate 9 for the first time
• They are a rare drop from Berserker Nobodies, who only appear in Battlegate 9

Illusory Crystals are only available after completing the Main Story.

• One is rewarded after clearing Battlegate 6 for the first time
• One is rewarded after clearing Battlegate 8 for the first time
• They are a rare drop from the Demon Tower, which only appears in Battlegate 8
