Terrace cultivation is most common in hills side of Nepal. This is the picture of terrace cultivation in Iswariganga - Baitadi district. Water supply for irrigation is challenge for the farmers. They basically rely on rainfall or connect water pipelines from the nearest water source and sometimes even carry the hand buckets of water. Due to lack of water the fields form solid mud balls which are broken before sowing the field using dalaitho ( special kind of stick made to break the solid mud balls).

#BangladeshPaddyIrrigation 🌾💧In Bangladesh, paddy fields are the lifeblood of agriculture, contributing significantly to the nation's food security and economy. With the aim of maximizing paddy yields and ensuring a steady supply of rice, irrigation development in these fields has been paramount. The lush green paddy fields of Bangladesh are a testament to the country's rich agricultural heritage, sustained by a network of irrigation channels, tube wells, and modern irrigation techniques. These systems enable farmers to efficiently manage water resources, providing the necessary moisture for optimal paddy growth throughout the cultivation cycle.Through government initiatives and agricultural extension programs, farmers are encouraged to adopt best practices in paddy irrigation, including timely water application, land leveling, and the use of water-saving technologies. Such efforts not only enhance paddy productivity but also contribute to water conservation and environmental sustainability. As Bangladesh strives to meet the growing demand for rice both domestically and internationally, investments in paddy irrigation infrastructure remain crucial. By harnessing the power of irrigation, Bangladesh continues to transform its paddy fields into vibrant hubs of agricultural productivity, ensuring food security for generations to come. #PaddyFarming #SustainableAgriculture 🌾🌱#BangladeshIrrigation#PadyFieldDevelopment#IrrigationProjects#BangladeshAgriculture#FieldIrrigation#PadyFieldLife#SustainableAgriculture#IrrigationSystems#EmpoweringFarmers#RuralDevelopmentBD

Smallholder cropping system in Saudi ArabiaThe southwestern regions of Al Baha, Asir, Jazan and Makkah have a high concentration of rural population and have been in farming for centuries. They cultivate rain-fed cereals, fruits like almonds, dates, figs, grapes, mangoes, pomengranates, papaya as many vegetables. The average farm size is less than 2 ha, and farming is largely based on older, traditional crop varieties and landraces, using low-inputs, limited technologies and mechanization. The cropping systems have been evolving over the years but based on environmental and crop production data of these regions, six clusters of #cropping systems were identified. Sorghum is the main crop in most of the cropping systems, cultivated both in the plains and in terraces. Availability of water remains a key constraint. A systematic analysis of the production patterns and diversity of the cropping system was conducted aligning with topography, altitude, rainfall, air temperature and soils that are the main biophysical factors influencing the cropping systems. Increasing water productivity, rainwater harvesting, irrigation scheduling, micro irrigation will be very critical for strengthening the cropping systems in a sustainable manner in the future. Scientific paper: Agroclimatic Zones and Cropping Systems in the Southwestern Regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia : Characterisation, Classification and Improvement Potential.

1 of 2: A video of the Mzenga Irrigation Scheme highlighting one of the water supply projects that HEJ are currently busy with in the northern region of Malawi. Here the pouring of the lining of a night storage reservoir is taking place. In the first pour every alternate section is poured. In the second pour the in-between ones are filled in and the joints are sealed. The idea is that the six reservoirs fill up over night, so that there is water for irrigating during the day. Being able to irrigate means the farmers will be able to get three crops a year instead of just one, contributing significantly to food security in the region.#foodsecurity #mzengairrigationscheme #hejacksonengineering #irrigationscheme
