Kyle C This is one of the few movies which really succeeds in translating its comic-book source material to the big screen, and one of even fewer which accomplishes this in live action. The monochrome, leather-clad, crude noir aesthetic is brought to life beautifully by the cast and director. It’s everything that films like Pulp Fiction wanted to be but never could. Every shot, every line, every sound effect is precise and effortless at the same time.It takes a while for the separate stories to come together, but it’s satisfying when they do. Some of the plot points and twists at the end range from peculiar to disturbing. Some of the storylines feel more like a writer’s fetish than a natural progression. Regardless, it hits a sweet spot if you’re looking for ultra violent, over the top noir with an unmatched mood and groundbreaking direction.
